A Visit to the Olympic Village

A Visit to the Olympic Village

Posted Jul 26, 2012 by: Phil

A once in a lifetime chance and this was pointed out by Nick Hawthorne & Dave Ansell, much to my pleasure I took up the opportunity as this was the dress rehearsal  for the Opening ceremony where we welcome the athletes from around the world. On the afternoon of Monday 23rd July at 2.48 I left Haywards  Heath  station with a feeling of adventure, excitement and expectation the same emotions one gets when seeing something for the first time. The journey was well mapped the crowds good humoured, travel went well, from the Stratford shopping centre it was hard to see much. At 5 o’clock the gates were opened and I went through the security procedure, thanking the Troop’s for being there, and the Games Maker’s for their help and directions.

As I entered the site the Aquatic Centre stood out its style perfect for an Olympic venue, the River Lee that plays a major role in the park offering a feeling of tranquillity and life, is very cleverly diverted around the Olympic Stadium thus access to the stadium is via a number of bridges. The flora and forna  on the banks of the river and around the Olympic Stadium have transformed the newness of the area, they are stunning as the UK’s largest man made wildflower meadows, everyone that I saw took pictures of the meadows, some people were sitting close by to get a magical view of  being a meadow, nostalgic about times gone by? These meadows have been created using PAS100 compost made from composted green waste, and blended with other sustainable materials to produce soils that support the different flowers ,trees and shrubs.

I have been amazed at the size of the Olympic Site I had no idea what 560 acres looked like, it is vast and the legacy of 2818 homes, with green areas, a lovely clean river, avenues of trees in the Olympic village and the general clean up of an industrial area has been a mammoth task leaving this for future generations is wonderful,  an area of London with good transport links into town  I  would recommend that if you can go and see for yourselves what has been achieved by the UK  in putting on the 2012 Olympics you to will be proud of the legacy.

The opening ceremony is  perfect and portrays the UK to the world, if you can switch on and watch the once in a lifetime show you  see a spectacular fit for the world.
We can supply PAS 100 Compost from our site in loose form, as well as small and large bags, these can be delivered in 3 days and will help condition your soil, and invigorate plant growth by the slow release of nitrogen.
