Acorn Scheme
The Acorn recycling scheme was set up in May 2003 by Horsham District council to increase recycling opportunities in the Horsham area. Since its introduction the recycling rate has risen from 13% to 47.73% in 2010/11, this is one of the biggest recycling rates in the country and something that we are very proud of. Green waste is collected from over 50.000 households and recycled into high quality compost that meets the compost quality protocol and PAS 100.
Horsham District Council
Horsham District Council run the Acorn scheme and Acorn Plus making them one of the top performing Councils in the Country, Olus play there part in this by recycling all Horsham’s kerbside collected green waste and have done this since its inception back in 2003, and have worked closely with HDC to make it the success it is today.
Adur & Worthing District Council
Olus take Adur and Worthing’s green waste and recycle it into quality compost that meets the compost Quality Protocol and PAS 100 Standards. Adur and Worthing Council have over 7.000 customers and there recycling scheme is growing at approximately 1000 new customers a year which highlights the great success that Adur and Worthing Council are having with there green waste collections.
West Sussex County Council
Olus take green waste from West Sussex County Councils Household Waste Recycling Sites run by Viridor Waste Management under a 25 year contract called the Reclaim contract, Olus receive green waste and wood waste from Crawley Transfer Station, Burgess Hill Transfer station, Shoreham HWRS, Horsham HWRS, Billingshurst HWRS and Lancing Transfer Station helping West Sussex County Council meet its European recycling targets.
Mid Sussex County Council
MSDC currently have over 13.000 kerbside green waste customers and the scheme is growing all the time. Olus except green waste from Mid Sussex District Council via the Reclaim contract and recycle it in to Quality compost that meets PAS 100 standards and the compost Quality Protocol.
Crawley Borough Council
Olus recycle Crawley Borough Councils kerbside collected green waste brought in via West Sussex County Councils Reclaim contract run by Viridor Waste Management, turning the green waste in to quality compost for use in Agriculture, Horticulture, Landscaping or Soil blending. Crawley Borough Council runs a fortnightly collection scheme that runs from March to November.
