Grassing up

Grassing up

Considering the damage that the country’s precious lawns have sustained from the brutal assault by the elements, there has been understandable concern as to how to remedy this grievous injury upon our most sacred ground.

I’ve mentioned before about areas of soil that have been washed away after severe downpours but only glimpsed upon the effects that it has on the lawns. I have mentioned in the past about looking out for the areas of one’s lawn where water build up occurs. This will most certainly have been the case recently.

In order to tackle the issue with regards to how to revert the damage, we can tackle it in a number of ways. Once drainage has been sorted whether by the introduction of specialised topsoil or by other means, we can move straight onto sprinkling a fine layer of rich topsoil on the top before sowing Regal Turf Seed over the top. Obviously try to make sure that the forecast for the next few days is going to be clear as you don’t want them being washed away but ideally after a period of precipitation. Wait for three days and then check to see if the grass seeds have germinated.

Alternatively, you can simply returf the area for instant results. After removing any undesirable areas of tardy grass around the area, simply fork the soil beneath and, if necessary, use a general topsoil in order to raise and level out the area so that a build up of water doesn’t occur again. Once satisfied with the level apply the Regal Turf that we also supply. Compress down the edges of the turf, with a rake, so that it fits nicely and water lightly with a watering can equipped with a fine nozzle. If the weather is fairly dry during the next week then further watering may be necessary but otherwise keep an eye on it although it should take fairly well.
